An air purifier filters particles to leave a clear, calming environment.
The cleaner the air, the healthier we feel. But which air purifier is best to buy online?
In our homes, there are many particles around us – from dust, smoke, pollen and pet hair.
Allergies all around us.
If you suffer from hayfever – you’ll notice by turning a fan on, hayfever will probably get worse because the pollen particles are being moved through the air.
Here we’re going to look at which air purifier is best from customer reviews with three budgets in mind.
All have a HEPA Filter. High Efficiency Particulate Air Filter. It must trap 99.97% of particulates 0.3 microns or larger in a complex web of fibres.
Although it doesn’t feature, if you’re looking for a Dyson Air Purifier, keep in mind you’ll be paying around £600.
Dyson Pure Cool Fan & Purifier ranks #139 for Air Purifiers on Amazon.

Which air purifier is best to buy when a sale is on?
Before we jump into our recommended best air purifiers, one to keep track on is the HoMedics Air Purifier with HEPA filter.
With a 4.5/5 Amazon review score based on 550+ reviews, this retails at £99.99 but sometimes can be found at incredible sale prices.
Sometimes as low as £38. That’s 62% OFF.
If you intend to purify a smaller sized room, certainly consider buying before the price jumps back up.
They will have limited stock at the sale price so don’t delay buying if you see a big price drop.
Comes with free Amazon Prime delivery.
High Budget – Xiaomi Air Purifier 2S AC-M4-AA Air Purifier
With an Amazon 4.5/5 rating, 88% of customers giving 4 or 5 out of 5 stars, and more than 350 reviews, the Xiaomi Air Purifier 2S AC-M4-AA Air Purifier in white is a market leader.
Also referred to as the Mi Air Purifier S2.
Google Reviews are really strong from over 50 customer reviews.
It’s not cheap at £222 but you get what you pay for – style (looks like something Apple would make), and substance (most people agree that it works as an air purifier).
Xiaomi Air Purifier 2S syncs with Amazon Alexa – just tell Alexa what you want it to do and she will operate the device for you at home.
Armed with a HEPA Filter, the all-new OLED screen shows the actual quality of air and checks PM2.5 levels to keep track the cleanliness of the air.
Switch to silent mode – most air purifiers are noisy but this one will work in the background with minimal fuss.
Its beautiful, light to move and easy to use. I have it set on timer to full blast my bedroom an hour before I go to bed. Neat. You will need to set it to the lowest speed to sleep with it on and I suspect its worthless at that speed.
So which air purifier is best?
I’d rank Xiaomi Air Purifier from China the number 1 for pollen, dust and pet allergies and to clear smoke fumes from a room at home.
High Budget – Philips AC2889/60 Series 2000i Connected Air Purifier
When looking at which air purifier is best, similar to Mi’s Air Purifier S2, I really like Philips AC2889/60 Series 2000i as an alternative air purifier for home or work.
It costs £400 but you can pay in monthly instalments of £80.
This one comes with lots of tech, has the trusty 4.5/5 Amazon customer review score, more than 400 reviews and 222 answered questions from people interested in the product.
This is always a good indicator of demand for an item on Amazon.
What do you get for your money?
- Intelligent purification – the device will auto monitor and react to the air quality it measures
- Remove 99.97% of particles (PM 2.5), allergens, gases, bacteria and viruses
- Night mode for clean air with undisturbed sleep
- Clean large spaces in your home – 2000i covers rooms up to 79 sq m
- Use with Alexa for voice control
These higher priced air purifiers remove more particles – they can remove the smaller PM 2.5 that some of the lower budget air purifiers cannot.
Mid Budget – Levoit Air Purifier
Ranked #2 in the Amazon air purifiers category, Levoit Air Purifier has to make the list for which air purifier is best for home.
It’s £79.99, comes with free delivery, has a 4.5/5 review rating and over 9,000 reviews. So lots of evidence to suggest Levoit Air Purifier would make a good purchase.
- Advanced 3 stage filtration method with true HEPA filter to capture allergens, pet hair, smoke, odour, large dust particles and small contaminants.
- Low operating noise for a soothing environment to work or relax in at home.
- Two brightness settings at night to have low level light to see or complete darkness to sleep.
- Three fan speeds to take on any level of air quality from minor irritants to complex odours.
Which air purifier is best? – Mi and Philips vs. Levoit
Levoit Air Purifier doesn’t have an air particle sensor on the front that tells you how clear the air is.
The Xiaomi Air Purifier S2 has this.
You also can’t sync the Levoit Air Purifier to your smartphone to set up an automated schedule (i.e. tell the air purifier to start purifying the air before you come home).
Xiaomi Air Purifier S2 measures temperature and air humidity which the Levoit doesn’t.
So you get much more tech and much more information about the air quality at home or in the office and measurement over a greater square footage of space.
So which air purifier is best?
We’d still say either of the high-price items because they use the latest advances in technology and give us more information than ever before about the micro niches we live in.
Low Budget – Jinpus Air Purifier
Which air purifier is best for someone who needs to compromise on budget?
Ranked #4 in the Amazon air purifiers category, Jinpus Air Purifier is our low budget choice at just £37.99.
Don’t expect all the super high tech and purifying abilities of Mi Air Purifier S2 or Philips AC2889/60 Series 2000i.
But for the price, it’s a good option to try and improve your air quality at home.
Especially with a 4.5/5 customer review score based on more than 1,000 reviews.
Jinpus Air Purifier comes with the all important HEPA Filter, three stage filtration and two fan speeds.
Air Purifying Indoor Plants – Bedrooms / Living Room / Office
Another way to help purify the air is through nature.
Specifically, air purifying plants.
These plants are heralded as helping to clear the air. Not at the same level as an air purifier.
But put them around your bedroom, living room and office to help with the overall purification performance.
Which air purifying plants are best?
Some of the best air purifying indoor plants are weeping figs, golden pothos, English ivy, ficus elastica and corn plants.
Also consider buying snake plants, broad lady palm, spider plants, aloe vera and chrysanthemums.
All these air purifying plants can absorb pollutants in the air through their leaves and root systems.
